Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric Surgery encompasses various surgical procedures aimed at helping individuals lose weight by making changes to their digestive system. It’s typically considered for individuals who are unable to achieve significant weight loss through diet and exercise or for those with obesity-related health conditions.


Bariatric Surgery includes but not limited to the following procedures (click on the links to learn more):

  • Gastric Balloon: Insertion of an intra-gastric balloon is a temporary device placed in the stomach via gastroscopy
  • Sleeve Gastrectomy: most common bariatric procedure, volume of the stomach is reduced limiting food intake
  • Roux-En Y Gastric Bypass: procedure to connect the stomach to a lower part of the intestines to reduce intake and absorption
  • On Anastomosis Gastric Bypass: a mini-bypass operation that has different risk and benefit profile to Roux-En Y bypass
  • Revisional Bariatric Surgery: in some patients a secondary operation may be required to achieve sustained outcomes

Dr Qiuye Cheng is an experienced specialist Upper GI and Bariatric surgeon with extensive expertise in minimally invasive surgery.
