Information Sheets

We have made some simple to follow instruction sheets for some commonly encountered problems

Information regarding Operating Access

Public Hospital Access:

With the appointment of Dr Hossein Ghazavi at Tamworth Base Hospital, ENT surgery is now possible at Tamworth Base Hospital. Public Hospital Access needs to be booked through the Tamworth Base Hospital ENT Clinics. We are unable to provide access to the public surgical waitlists.

Tamara Private Hospital:

We are able to offer most general ENT operations at Tamara Private Hospital including tonsillectomies. Operations can also be undertaken in Sydney (A/Prof Elliott) or Dubbo (Dr Ranga) at a number of private hospitals on needs basis or request.

Head and Neck Cancer Patients:

A/Prof Michael Elliott is a visiting ENT/Head & Neck cancer surgeon from Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney, one of the leading cancer centres in Australia. All cancer patients (public and private) can be managed via the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse or on request be referred to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

Tonsillectomies:

Post-tonsillectomy bleeding is an uncommon (~2-5% depending on the the case series) but potentially serious complication of tonsillectomies. The current standard of care in Australia dictates that a patient needs to stay within an area that has access to 24 hour emergency ENT services for up to 2 weeks following this operation.

Logistics of Travelling to Sydney or elsewhere:

Depending on the private hospital you are having the operation at, they might have specially-priced accommodation for patients travelling from regional and rural areas. Please ask the hospital when you are making the booking to enquire about accommodation options. The Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme or IPTAAS is a NSW government scheme to assist with the costs of travelling and accommodation. Please ask one of our staff member if you need to travel to Sydney for an operation.
